Door jambs on silghtly different wall thickness
Hi,
We need to up up new doors jambs and doors in our house we are rennovating. We have noticed that our walls have different degrees of thickness (o to 15mm diference). So lets say we look at the hinge side of the where the door will go (left side). At the bottom, the wall with plasterboard we are putting the door jamb on is 185mm. At the top, it is the wall is195mm wide. My mate says we should cut the jamb so it fits exactly like the wall - ie 195mm at top and 185mm at bottom. The end result will be that the door jamb will not be the same width at top and bottom so it matches the wall width exactly.
My approach would be to cut it at the widest point 195mm and use some sort of gap filler under the architraves where there is a gap.
What is the best approach? It seems wrong to have a door jamb that is different size at top compared to bottom.
I appreciate your help,
Kind regards,
Mil.
