    Smile Gday

    Hey guys,

Just thought I'd introduce myself and show you a couple of things I've been working on. I'm in he process of building a house ... well ,watching builders build a house . I'm trying to make some of the furniture while those guys do the hard yards.

First up was a desk made from a length of bowling alley.

This was a huge job. The 10m length of Rock Maple alley (ex Essendon Bowl), was in pretty bad shape. Machine oil from the pin placing/moving thingies had started to open the joins. So I worked with a furniture making buddy to pull the whole lot apart. Thousands of hardened threaded nails, and a lot of ruined timber later, we remachined the pieces and glued up what was left into slabs for the top and sides with alternating lengths to make the finger joins you can see in the photos.

Managed to preserve some of the inlaid walnut arrows and dots, and I'm really pleased with the finished piece.

Now I'm working on three recycled Ironbark benchtops that will be fitted into the house. I've started a thread in the finishing section to pick the brilliant brains of you proper woodies!

Anyway, Happy New Year! May your splinters come out easily and your chisels stay sharp!

    Cheers,
