If you ask for a Fosters there's no danger of being mistaken for a southerner. The only people who drink that stuff are foreigners. Can't remember the last time I saw anyone order a Fosters. Can you still buy it in Australia?

    Mat,

    Great News!

Queensland has just (today) launched an Ice Hockey team into the national league, when you get here you'll be rooting for the Blue Tongues no doubt!! Don't get too excited, Ice Hockey is as big here as Australian Rules is there!

Although it is true, Darwin had a world champion Ice Hockey team in the 70's as I recall, (and if all the details are not altogetherly the way it was then perhaps someone from there could correct it.)

The tides in Darwin are a bit big, (like 8-10 metres) and there is this spot called "the Rock" which is accessable by foot at low tide, and of course becomes an island for the rest of the time. A few locals took to "sitting" on the rock and consuming a few rations while waiting for the tide to recede, and as this activity grew in popularity, an unofficial "Rock Sitter's Club" was formed.

Time passed, and a few of the members noticed that the hours of Sitting and consuming alcohol were taking their toll on fitness and they decided to take up Ice Hockey. They would walk around the flats at low tide checking all the puddles to see if they'd frozen over, but none of them ever were, so they would go back to the rock, crack a few dozen more, and wait.

Eventually the club decided to send out challenges, so they invited the Canadian national team (then World Champs) down for a test. Canadians wimped out, and the Darwin Rock Sitter's Ice Hockey Club became world champions by default!

    You'll love it here!

You'd think Canada would have the oldest recorded hockey traditions right - no so. The oldest recorded rivalry in hockey is between Oxford and Cambridge in the UK, 1885.

Actually they used to broadcast a lot of Aussie rules football here. They might still, but I don't get those stations anymore. The only rule in that game is play on isn't it. I'm more a rugby union fan, but can adapt. First Wallabies vs All Blacks game I saw was in Fiji. It nearly turned into a punch up between the Aussies and Kiwis. They had to get a couple of big Filians to baby sit the tv room in the hotel for the rest of the game.

I thought you meant on the field. I could believe that too. We love the Kiwis
