Can some one point out how to design bracing for deck 3m above ground using posts. I look around and there is a lot without cross bracing, also I note on a recent extension nearby, they used speedbrace under the joists to steel posts but only used cross brace at the end of the house no where inbetween.

Previously I used brick piers to give lateral restraint, I understand its to do with shear forces, so blocking will provide some restraint, uplift taken care of by footing design (and some shear/bending).

I have come across the AS and Alan stains and its to do with designing as a canterlever post or general engineering principles. The Allan stains version I have mentions using timber as a brace only good for decks upto 1.8m.

I look around and speedbrace/strap is used under joist. but where does it specify this in the AS?

I am thinking of building a deck with a hexagonal roof section in the middle, like the Queenslander design, noting they also dont have cross bracing between posts.
