I'm running SP2 with all the latest updates and have no problems at all.

When was the last time you did a full Windows update there have been around 21 critical updates since SP2 in September last year? It is pretty important to keep up to date with them.

Have you tried enabeling MS firewall and turning off zone alarm?

Hope you get the problem fixed with a minimum of fuss.

    Cheers - Neil

Not sure I understand this comment - because you are having a problem with the library site.

Try turning zone alarm off and seeing if you can access the catalogue. Ensure you turn it back on again after.

If that solves the problem then it would appear that zone alarm is blocking port 8000.

Do you have the free version of Zone Alarm or did you pay for it. The free version of Zone Alarm does not allow you to change port settings.

You will get a more specific error message by turning off "show friendly HTTP error messages".
    Go to,
Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Advanced - Find the entry "Show friendly HTTP error messages" and uncheck it.

Now you will get the unfriendly error message when you try to access the site which might provide a clue.

    That'd be worth a try.

After I put on SP2, I couldn't connect to my ISP at all (Optus Cable BB)

I uninstalled ZA and turned off the Windows firewall. I was then able to connect o.k.

I then re-installed ZA and haven't had a problem since.

I can access the site using XP SP2 with an active firewall. Having used Zone Alarm previously I can tell you that it is fickle when you load other software, in particular SP2.

Either product in solitude allows you to access the library site, but both together can occasionally go weird. Try shutting off SP2 AND ZA. You may need to reboot to get it online (I know this "shouldn't" be necessary, but is how I usually get success).

A Google search on "zone alarm and SP2 problems" shows you are not alone.
