I joists installation help needed.
I am thinking of the finer detail on installing my new 240x90 I-joist ontop of (current deck bearer) of 290x45x2 F7 that span continuously along isolated 350 brick piers roof held up by 90x90 posts through piers to footings.
First up I am building the upper wall along these I-joists ontop of bearers to seal off the room. Then I will be pouring the slab underneath and build walls downstairs etc under this bearer line.
I will be building a deck off the back again (a lot later) 2 storeys above ground and it will attach to the house and I was considering using this same bearer to support the deck, so I need to get the blocking amd placement right for the upstairs room inbetween I joists.
I am sure I read that the blocking to be the same as AS 1684, which means blocking at 1800 centres (shown in the installation manual) what about midspan blocking if I joist spanning 4m do you need intermediate blocking? I notice on a building nearby they have only blocked above a bearer not midspan
So where would you put the blocking?
1. Ontop of the bearer fully and think about the deck joists later maybe ledger board?
2. Leave a gap for the deck joist save knocking or cutting out later.
3. Offset the blocking by 45mm leaving 45mm for deck bearer.
4. Use plywood plate or metal strap and cut it later and fully block when install joists.
Also it shows when blocking with I joist to nail the bottom flange and its important for the top flange to be supported by blocking which direction do you drive the nail ( I take it through the top going through the laminations).
Also I will be covering the ends (to the weather with weatherboard) considerations here? ventalation, put DPC for bricks (later lower storey).
In amongst all this it will or will not effect the platform floor construction wall still supported over joist bearer depend on blocking on edge.
