Photo slideshow advice sought

Having recently entered the digital camera world I am now in the throes of making up slideshow CDs and/or DVDs.
After purchasing forty bucks worth of shareware that does an excellent job of making a slideshow with soundtrack I discovered that the resultant DVD would only playback on a computer.

Do any of you guys have any experience in this field and can you recommend some software?
I would like to be able to incorporate music and speech with each image and have something that can be played on a 'TV DVD".

What operating system are you using?

I'm using Windows XP and there is an option there to save files to CD in 'High Mat" format which is (apparently) compatible with modern DVD players. I've not used it but it might be worth exploring.

Alternatively, you might get some help from Tech Talk which is one of the ABC forums.

I use Ulead Photo Explorer 8 to produce slideshows for my older DVD player. My new DVD player will display jpegs and has its own slideshow facility within. You might be better off bying a new DVD player with this ability. I have the LG combo. Apart from that you might find that the burning software has a slideshow burning option as well.

As the others have said, the limitations may be in your DVD player. Do you want it to run on any DVD player or just on your own one.

If it is just your DVD player, then what brand and model is it and check the manual to see what type of files it will play.

I assume your software has created either one of the follwoing file types: AVI, VCD, MPEG, DivX and your DVD palyer doesn't recognise that type.

It's unlikely that you'll find a piece of software that will go from jpd to DVD format. Your best bet may is probably to stick with the software you have and use something else to do the final conversion to DVD format. This may be freeware.

More info required. I have used XP's Movie Maker 2 program (downloadable from Microsoft, or often on CD's supplied on front of PC Magazines ) to create the slideshow movie. Unfortunately, from memory this will save it as an AVI file. A movie that requires a PC to play it. This is why standalone DVD players may not play the final slideshow.

You then need to convert to MPEG (1 or 2 depending if you are making a VCD or DVD ) via an additional program. There are some freeware programs available on the NET to convert AVI to MPEG, but again, PC Magazines often have free versions of software that will perform this function.

I use Ulead version 8, as it, like most other similar programs, asks the option when creating the movie, what the desired output will be, eg DVD etc.. Try this forum as well, its been very usefull to me in the past.

man u either gotta have it in fully DVD format which is MPG, or just make afront screen and work yr slide show, u can do this in a basic DVD authoring package...

just search the web and be sure to know exactly what u r after...

i would look at Premiere, the adoce video software, or Director would do it fine, maybe even some quicktime authoring...
