Flashing for new door in old house
we have removed an old timber door that was built into my brothers house circa 1960. house has no flashing and appears to have relied on the paint seal to keep water out. house is weatherboard.
we have ordered a new aluminum door to fit in the gap from the old door (with approx 10mm gap top and sides) from GJames and from experience these come with a plastic flashing attached to the reveal. i have installed these doors in a new construction but never in a retro fit.
we do not wish to pull off all the weatherboards just to fit the flashing in for this door so my question is how do i go about waterproofing this install as best as possible. foam and LOTS of silicone?
if you were the builder what would you do?
thanks for any suggestions.
