Well I've gone back to IE too. Sort of. Actually I've gone back to SlimBrowser which is an IE wrapper. Does tabs, pop up blocker, yada yada.

I won't use Opera 'cause i refuse to pay for a bloody browser and I won't tolerate adware.

Yeah i've got spybot but the damage was done. After the problems I had, I purchased Xoftspy and it picked up about 20 spyware/adweare programs that Spybot missed. All seems fine now but i get about 20 emails a day from some online pharmacy and related sites trying to sell me Viagra etc. They must have been talking to my wife !!! I use Mailwasher too, that sorts them out.

Just wondering - are you using a good firewall program like ZoneAlarm? I used to have problems with disappearing bookmarks etc, but it seems to have stopped since I put ZoneAlarm on.

It's major inprovement over Microsquash's offering is that it works both ways - if someone gets their junk running on your machine, ZoneAlarm stops it getting out, as well as blocking script kiddies from breaking in. MS's firewall, and a lot of others, only try to stop someone getting in & don't stop malicious & backdoor programs 'dailing home' once they are aboard. Wonderfully trusting of them isn't it?

I've just given Xoftspy a run - well, their free scanner anyway. Yes, it did pick up five files that Spybot missed, but Ad-Aware found 13, five of which were the same ones Xoftspy found.

I've been running Ad-Aware and Spybot back to back for quite a while now. They each find different stuff but together, they do seem to get all of it based on tests like the above where I try a different spyware scanner.

Interestingly, I've just changed the Spybot settings to the highest level - it found stuff it had ignored on the previous scan (immediately before), which I guess you'd expect, and didn't seem to take any longer to do the scan so I'd reccomend that move.

Zonealarm is supposed to be a good firewall as far as free ones go, but I have a nephew in the internet security industry and he describes it as a lace curtain. However, he doesn't go recommending anything else either so it's probably a case that all of them are pretty easy to crack if you're determined enough.

Personally, I use Norton's Internet Security - the latest version. The first version was a dodgy as a three dollar bill but this new version is smooth, fast and trouble free. My excuse? It came on my Dell when I bought it so I used it and was impressed enough to pay for it when the time came (I wouldn't give you tuppence for the first version, which I'd been using up to then).

Ah spammers and hackers - wouldn't the internet be boring without them. What would we talk about ... apart from pancakes?

    Cheers
    Richard

Never had any problems with FF...

I do think there is a bug though that if you dont have any bookmarks on the bookmark toolbar it will loose focus and loose all bookmarks.
