Sanding Disks for Jarrah

I am in the process of finishing a 600*1500 jarrah table top that has been made from 180*45 stock. Having planed it flat, went down to "Pete's Bazaar' to buy some sanding disks to for the final sand

Came across ASTRA A100 disks that looked interesting. Have since been back and bought another 20 at 65 cents each!

They seem to cut the Jarrah twice as fast as conventional 40 grit and give you a 100 grit finish. I am still using the same disk after sanding both sides of the top. (pic attached)

Has anyone else used these or am I just a slow learner.

Hey Paddy,

I might be the one who is a bit slow, did you say that you have planed it flat and then hit it up with 100 grit, I would have thought that after planing it would be 240grit and then the finish., but I might be wrong, Am I ??

I wish that was the case ! unfortunately I was using timber that was left over from making a dinning table and ten chairs. All the best bits had been used and much of this material had grain that ran " every which way" as well as being cupped and slightly twisted. There was a small amount of "tear out" which was easily cleaned up with the 100 grit. No doubt a more skilled woodworker from the dark side could have avoided this.

So you are one of us mere mortals, are you using a ROS ?? they are the best mistake cover upper I have come across, so the Table top was supposed to be 40-50 mm finished but will be 35-40 hey ??

If you don't start with a plan, you can't change anything during the process
