Yep , those old kauri tubs , I remember them from my childhood too.
The wood use to fur up a bit , and have a whitish look when dry , from the soap I 'spose.
It was not an attractive look .
They still pop up once in a while in old cottages .
No idea how they did the timber joins tho .
