restoring old furniture
hi guys please be patient with me my first post here
my question is i have obtained some old dark furniture for my daughters first flat but i want to spray them to put new life into old furniture,without costing a fortune,which type of paint would you recommend,a friend said car paint but it doesnt sound right to me
the items are a table,a wardrobe,sideboard, a chest of draws and nest of tables
i have a 600ml gravity fed spray gun with a 1.5 -2mm nozzle and a 60ltr compressor<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

any household oil based paint will do, but if they are antiques, it would be a shame to paint them. If you do, I would use a cream colour and "distress" it in places back to the original dark finish, aka shabby chic.

many thanks for your reply what would u recomend for a thining ratio and do u use cream colours to disguise the yellowing of the white gloss overtime lol

I have been doing up furniture for awhile now, i use tri coat as the under coat as it will cover, water or oil or stain that has been used on it before, if there is a vanish on them use paint stripper first.
Then i use semi gloss enamel as my top coat with about 5% thinners in winter & 10% in summer, you need a to use your own judgement sometimes you will tell if its to thick wont spray well to thin it will run.
Here are some drawers these are about 60 years old in adark brown color this is the end result.
