I had to mow the lawn instead, the mower is the only thing that doesn't require electricity!

I'm sure the offender is regretting this morning's outing - assuming he's sobered up. No injuries as far as I know.

A couple of young guys stopped immediately after the accident, stopped traffic and tried to convince the driver to stay in the car. He ignored this advice but did at least get out of the passengers side instead of the driver side as he was trying to do.

I really hope that Energy Australia get to bill the driver for the repairs.
I counted 10 workers for the first 2 hours or so then 5 or 6 for the remainder they were working, 3 cherry pickers, 2 pole replacement trucks, a semi with the new pole and two tipper trucks, one to pick up the debris and one to deliver the new sand to fill in the hole. Add to that at least 2 RTA guys, and several traffic controllers for when they did let traffic proceed.
And don't forget the 4 police cars to block off traffic (it's a busy 4 lane road).
Electricity provider did a great job with the pole replaced and all services back on within about 6 hours.

Given the force/speed required to break off a pole, I'm surprised the driver was able to walk away.
I heard the collision, had a quick look and by time I'd called 000, the driver had managed to get out. Could have been a lot worse, especially if the fuel tank had leaked.

Mick, it looks to me that the car was airborne at point of impact. Hence snapping the wooden pole. I'll ask at work tomorrow as I work for the distributor.

It did make a strange noise once I restarted it - I guess the fans don't like to be turned off.
I wonder if the accident also blew the motor on my lathe? I'd love to replace it with and electronically controlled BLDC motor - no more belt changing.

The temptation to do this to some of the idiots who have accidents in front of my place is sometime difficult to overcome.
The majority of offenders are drunk (no surprise there!) and/or young.
Over the 20 years I've been living here, I've lost count of the number of minor bingles that have occurred within 30 metres or so of my place. It's gotten to the point where you can almost tell how much damage has been done by the sound of the collision. There have been several times that an ambulance has been needed and on at one occasion, a fatality.
It's a straight bit of road for at least 100 metres in each direction of my place.

That particular power pole is a popular target and has been hit 3 or 4 times that I can remember (I think it may have been replaced previous to this recent event)
