Greetings woodworkers, let me try, once again, to attempt to extend your knowledge and learn a little more myself. I apologise for my tardiness in presenting this and ubfortunately I also must aplogise in advance as I shall be back at the beach for a few more days and therefore unable to "quiz" you.

Todays question: describe a Cavetto please.

A quarter round concave moulding. A lot of cornices are cavetto mouldings.

A Cavetto is an Italian ice cream (gelati) in the shape of a guineau pig (or Cavie). Traditionally it has a chocolate centre covered in a rich coffee layer and frozen.

    A Cavetto..
Its an Italian sports car, based on the Corvette.
Much smaller, well Italy is a smaller place after all.
It only has room for one persona.

CAVETTO (Ital. diminutive of cavo, hollow), in architecture, the term given to a hollow concave moulding sometimes employed in the place of the cymatium of a cornice, as in. that of the Done order of the theatre of Marcellus. It forms the crowning feature of the Egyptian temples, and took the place of the cymatium in many of the Etruscan temples.

Mr. Groggy almost got nodded, Mr. Rogers came closish and Mr. Midge got the shake.

A CAVETTO moulding is a hollow moulding which is wider than it is thick as distinct from a scotia which is a quarter circle.

Mr. Midge gets a full shake of the head for his perversity in the face of a challenge!
