    Default Hard Shellac tallboy top

I've just finished a tallboy in hoop pine for my daughter. Used hard shellac because I know she'll put hot coffee mugs etc on the top. She's talking about putting a sheet of glass on top to protect it. Is this necessary?

    Thumbs up Alex

it woud not hurt to put the glass on as shellac is very suseptable to moisture.
lacquer would have been a better choice

G'day Alex - Nothing wrong with the glass especially if you know it is going to be abused, either that or get her conditioned to using coasters. Just leave it for about 3 weeks before applying the glass and make sure the edges and corners are bevelled and polished by the clazier or there might be blood as well as coffee on the top.

Tigerbat5 - Alex is talking about Hard Shellac which is about as susceptible to moisture as lacquer or polyurethane.

    Cheers - Neil

Thanks Neil. Knowing my daughter, it's the coffee mugs that are likely to sit there for three weeks - growing fungus!
