Laminate Floating Floors

AS i understand floating floors you need to keep approx 10mm clearance the whole way around the floor.What keeps the floor from moving when you walk on it?Do the skirting boards perform this function (locking it into place)?Just trying to understand this whole floating floor thing.

Nothing really.

Drop a sheet of 10mm MDF on the floor and try to move it! In reality creep doesn't seem to be a problem once installed from my experience at any rate.

Read the instructions VERY carefully though, because of humidity fluctuations in Brissy you may find that 10mm isn't enough gap, the floor does move THAT much!

friction keeps the floor in place as the underlay is usually a foam substrate and because of the area of the floor friction can be quite extreme,here in brissy the 10mm gap is sufficent for expansion just make sure you sit the pile of boards inside the rooms/area you are going to install them so as they can climitise to the surroundings
