Hard Shellac for outside use?
Does any one have experience on Hard Shellac for outside use? Partial sun and all the tribulations of the aussie weather.

G'day Seb - Never tried it as it is designed to be used for interior work, However the big carved doors I made for the ANZ Bank in Melbourne and the Safe Deposit building around the corner were finished in regular shellac and to date have stood the test of time including all the black dust and other garbage that settles on them.
So..... In theory, Hard Shellac should be able to stand up to a lot worse. But you didn't hear that from me.
Would be a bit of a suck it and see project, then let us know in a couple of years what it's like, and how it's holding up.
Cheers - Neil
PS the ANZ Bank project was done about 15 yrs ago - 2 sets of external doors and lots of internal carvings in the old Stock Exchange and the bank chambers
