In fact there were only about 120 members on at the time but we got hit by every search bot and web crawler at the same time giving us 1700 guests.

It was a completely different place back then. More social, a good place to hang around, more humour, vigorous debate, more how too`s and wips. Now it’s to ridged, the fun has gone, stricter stay on topic warnings, and for me, now used as a resource to check out what others are doing wood wise. Its now a place you pass through, instead of hanging around.

As said, it could have been just a hacker having fun.
If not, there could be a very simple explanation: the product has reached maturity and saturated the market, ie the intended audience. No need to feel disappointed.

Fun, but not cool.
A shame.... bloody Aussies, everyone gets to know each other... then its all downhill from there... very funny, but cruder and ruder... like school kids out of control.
Along the way, something gets lost... like Lignum doing crazy WIP's, and opting for just passing through. (and I miss the really funny, rude, jokes)

We all miss it to a certain extent.
But this is a better place now. No more is every single thread hijacked by the same handful of people, fun for some but frustrating for those who genuinely wanted to contribute.
Possible reason for slight decline in most online numbers is that many of the hijackers went to another place but not before we lost a lot of good genuine members because of the antics of a few. I had many dozens of emails from good members saying they wouldn't be back because of hijacking, drivel, nastiness and ganging up on to new members and a whole lot more.
Hopefully that is all in the past.
People can now do a W.I.P. without having it hijacked. Those who just pass through should maybe stick around for a bit and actually see the real difference.
By the way our numbers are much higher and more constant now by about 40-50% on a regular basis than they were then. That was just a freak number partly brought on by search engine bots which now visit a lot less due to different methods of disseminating info to them.
We now have 7,700+ active members back then it was around 2,000. We also separated Reno Forums from these forums which resulted in a loss of most on line numbers here. If you combine the numbers on line of both forums then we have passed the 2008 number on a number of occasions.
Cheers - Neil
PS Yes I miss the old days...... But in all honesty I prefer the forums the way they are now. It's still very Aussie, it's still fun, it's very much more welcoming and in the opinion of most visitors and members, it is by far the best, most free and easy forum of this kind in the world today.

I sometimes do too and I was one of the same handful of people that Neil is referring too, but instead of leaving I stayed and I'm glad I did.
The board has become more friendly, seldom any nastiness and more informative.
The reduction in hijacking informative threads and WIP I appreciate now that I've become older and maybe a bit wiser and when it still happens it is becoming annoying.
So keep up the good work.
Peter.

Bugger I must have missed it. Or did I? Only joined the forums for one simple reason to win in the prize draw.
Yeah there's another reason. To try and contribute to discussion and learn from others that I would not otherwise be able to. Really nice to be able to participate even on this thread.
