What's wrong with Australian Economy?

I am Chinese furniture factory, i always buy timber from AU and NZ, and sell furnitures back.
But recently, orders come down. Customer tells me the economy is not good at this time.
what happened? as i know, AU's economy is always strong.

Interest rates have gone up, and retail spending has dropped in some sectors as a consequence (we're all looking at larger plasma TVs and eating out more rather than buying furniture).

people realised that it is not on to buy poorly made furniture from timber that is grown in Australia, shipped to China where cheap labor is used to build the furniture and then ship back an inferior product.

What an appalling waste of energy....all for $$

Well, maybe, here is the rub. The Australian economy may be strong, but maybe, it is at the wrong end of town.

Maybe, the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer. With the mining economy going gang busters, Australia is riding on the miner's back. Much like it did when it was said Australia rode on the sheep's back. Now, only the Kiwis do that.

Too many people just buying REALLY cheap MDF cr@p - there are a few tonnes of it sitting out on the footpath near my home now, waiting for the council cleanup next week.

I think a lot of the big chain stores are buying really inferior stuff from placed like Malasia or Indonesia & just making a bigger markup on it, and not importing any even marginally better quality stuff at all so the customer can't see where he is getting robbed. I am seeing flat pack 'furniture' that is being made from 9mm MDF for the main panels, sometimes 12mm and hardly ever see 16mm.

The Chinese factories wouldn't be churning out tonnes of inferior products and shipping them to Australia if there wasn't a huge market full of willing buyers who put price before quality of the product.

the problem comes because we are giving our minerals away!!profits went from 550 billion to 1000. billion . and our share is bugger all. it goes to the multi nationals , we get the ghost towns and the holes and mess

The Master must be right. I bought a large TV (LCD, not plasma) and I have been waiting more than one month for it to be delivered. The apologetic Sony representative said that they underestimated the demand and can not keep up, they are so desperate that they freight them here by air, and that it will be another couple of weeks before I will be able to get it. Given the performance of the Socceroos and Italy I am not too upset by the delay, though.

Um people ARE buying the stuff....in droves.

Spend a Sunday down at your local IKEA or Bunnings store and youll see what Im talking about.
