Needing to grind/wire brush some small round bits - the problem was how to hold without burning/losing a finger - pliers were not an option.

Solution - a replacement keyless chuck from one of those automotive stores. The chuck holds the small part securely, the tapered nose of the chuck allows close access to the grinding/wire wheel.

    Works for me

    Regards,
    Bob

If you don't want to buy a chuck and you have an old battery powered drill around for which it is too expensive or not possible to get new batteries for then break open the drill casting and extract the chuck - they are very useful little beasties to have around.

A pin vise, although not easy to find, occupies less real estate than a drill chuck. A Dremel auxiliary chuck is in between those two, but I think it has to be mounted on the Dremel for tightening.

Yep pin vices are the way I go have a couple of them and if things get too big in the battery drill they go and then off to the wire brush
