De-waxed shellac is useful if you're mixing and matching finishes i.e. you may want to 'pop' the grain with linseed oil and follow up with sprayed lacquer. De-waxed shellac will stick to virtually any other finish medium, forming a barrier coat and allowing the subsequent application of virtually any other finish over the top of the whole lot.

Woodwould does this apply to any shellac as in regular orange shellac or hardened shellac? I want to do exactly what you have described, i want to make make the grain pop with boiled linseed then i want to spray with lacquer.

I wouldn't be prepared to risk it with other shellacs - you'd be pretty -off if you had to strip it all back for the want of some de-waxed shellac.

Thanks Woodwould, I think a trip to carba-tec is on the books for some of Neils U-beaut de-waxed shellac.
