Which Finish?
Hi there
I am building a corner unit for my wife, which will stand about waste hight, out of Lilac.
For a previous coffee table I finished it with KraftKote, which is a two part high gloss epoxy. I really like the finish of this as it really brings out and contrasts the grain in the lilac, amd makes it look spectacular.
For a recent badge display table I made for her, I used F&W gloss, which I am completely not happy with, as it does not contrast the grain.
Unfortunately the KraftKote is too expensive and too difficult to use over a large surface. My question is this:
What finish can I use that will bring out the contrasts in the grain, that is of at least a medium gloss, and that an amateur like me can apply. (Note, that I have trouble getting a shine on my shoes - I'm that bad!).
Time and effort are not a concern, but the coverage is about two metres square so I will need to be able to apply a constant finish - i.e. not patchy.
Any advice?
regards
Wongdai

there is a type of 'French Polish' that I've seen Frank Klaus use (in a video). I couldn't believe what he was doing. He was sweeping over areas that hadn't dried without any problems. Trouble is I can't remember the name of the stuff. The finish is similar to French Polish and has the advantage of being more resistant to moisture etc.
I used it on a desk and it wore very well.
The only problem (apart from the price which I remember wasn't cheap) is that you need to have a perfect surface. You can't fad up with it.
Cheers,
Jim
