Top plate fixing over LVL lintel
Hi all
Just completing my plans for an extension and had a meeting with the Structural Engineer. One of my proposed window opeings is 3.2metres wide and the Engineer specified an LVL Lintel 300mm deep. However, there is only 300mm from the top of the window to the top of the wall plate so the lintel will not fit. We are now looking at possibly a metal lintel, which I truly want to avoid.
I'm also going to be having the same issue with a 5.2m garage span.
Does anyone know if the Top Plate has to be continuous above the lintel, OR can the top plate be notched into the top corners of the lintel, the lintel then performing the function of the top plate for the length of the span.
Any references to AS1684 would be great.
Thanks
