Secrets of a Carpet Repairer
I want to try to repair a small (1cm wide) burn mark in a carpet. I have spare carpet to use, and thought I could punch a small circle from that and use it to fill a similar sized punched hole where the burn mark is. Does anyone know if that is how the experts do it? I tried Googling carpet repairs and one repair company said their repairs were carried out by a Master Technician. Should I do a course before I attempt this?!

If its just a machine made carpet I think It couldn't hurt to try. Hand made might be a little trickier. But not much. You can get carpet tape from carpet places pretty easily. You probably have to buy a whole roll though. Or you could just stick the edges onto a piece of fabric with contact adhesive. Use the fabric like sticky tape. Then you won't have fraying problems.

I used to play footy with a house painter.
he was an expert at colour matching,
when he'd dribble paint on someones carpet he'd paint over it with carpet coloured paint
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I used to know a carpet layer and that's what he did. Although he used that glue tape and hot iron that they join carpet with. Use double sided tape (only need to use one side leave the backing tape on) but make sure that it is larger than the patch so that it will stick to both carpet and patch and press down firmly.
Some carpet have the pile one way so make sure it is the same otherwise in some light condition you will always see the patch. They did it wrong at one place I worked and they had to come back and fix it.
Good luck.
Peter.

Tape a new piece of carpet over the top of the damaged section.
Use a Stanley knife to cut through both pieces at once.
Remove the damaged section and replace it with new piece cut exactly to size.
Note underlay may be cut and would need to be glued to floor and then new carpet glued to it. ----------- Good Luck.

Thank you! So that's how the experts do it...with a knife and not a punch?
