Blotches on Tas Myrtle
Hi all. I have cut some 2mm veneers for a table top and some of the veneers showed these blotches. They looked like an oil but I have tried rubbing with thinners, turps and acetone all of which did nothing. Can anyone offer any suggestions as I feel that when I put a finish on the top the blotches will be a bit unsightly .
Cheers Peter

The only suggestion I can give, is to coat the veneer a couple of light coats of white shellac and then apply your finish. The shellac should help with the blotchiness.
cheers

Thanks for that suggestion Wendy . I tried that with a sample piece of veneer. Coated one side with 2 coats of white shellac ( 2 years old)and then apllied NC finish to each side . The shellac helped a little but did not make it vanish so the spots ,if they do not fade over time will have to be a conversation piece . Luckily the spots are only on the butterfly extension panel of an extension table.
Cheers
