But it gets you a long way Iain.
Christmas eve out here, ULP 89.9c. Boxing Day 103.9c. Barrel price must have shot up on Christmas Day!

Eat your hearts out with ULP around 85c here in country QLD.

On the subject of interstate rivalry, I was as a new QLD resident from NSW, taken to one side where it was confided to me that the only reason for NSW's existence was to act as a buffer to keep QLD safe from the Victorians.

It wasn't clear as to whether they were just refering to petrol prices.

Seriously, the percentage share that the government takes as fuel excise would be interesting to know, along with the windfall they receive on each price hike.

Earlier this year a service station ( an oxymoron if ever there is one for they give no service ) started selling petrol for about 15 cents a litre plus all taxes.

They put up a signboard and attracted lots of customers. Funny thing is the government stopped it as it is illegal to advertise a GST exclusive price.

As usual politicians don't want you to know how much their hand is always in your pocket.

BTW Paul, It is " Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

It is as I suspected. I just did not know the actual figures. The only consolation is that we are still one of the cheaper countries for fuel as no doubt the politicians would throw back at us

The other side of the coin is that if they did not tax us there, it would have to be somewhere else.

Now you are absolutely right regarding my signature. I have used and abused the phrase so many times that I have obviously misremembered the quote. My Alzheimer's is currently in denial mode......I think...... or was it dislexia? Either way with your permission I will correct my signature (oh the indignity, it's like being told you have spelt you own name wrong!)

You were helpful. It is a little like using the credit card. I like people to check my signature. It keeps us all honest.

As my wife says, while professing love, "But you're not perfect!" This is normally said with the tiniest degree of venom. It came as a shock to me the first time, but I am almost immune now.

I digress from the daylight fuel robbery issue; Back to the thread men.
