Staining/Colouring MDF
Hi all, I am building an entertainment unit out of MDF and she who must be obeyed has requested a finish just like our large coffee table which is a very dark chocolate brown stain bordering on black with a satin finish,
Any ideas what a man can use stain wise to duplicate this finish
Cheers

Couple of coats of an oil based walnut stain should go close

For a 100% match use the wood from the coffee table.

Low sheen acyrilc house paint...
I would imagine it would be hard to get stain to look the same on the edges(endgrain)of your unit as it would on the mdf hard surfaces.
Or as gatiep said!....................................................................

Mdf can be made to look reasoanble & will stain in the normal manner but the end grain presents a chalenge.
One work arround is to do a sunburst sort of thing with the stain very dark at the edges and lightening toward the middle of the panels.
the endgrain will take quite some sealing & sanding.
cheers
