Finishing Question - top coats are making my head spin
Hi all,
I have scoured the web about posts about decking stains and oils and was wondering about a few things as I am new to this game.
My deck is Yellow Balau, and is 580 lineal meters. It is still in packs in my garage as I haven't found the right product to use yet. I was going to use a 2 part product called UltraSeal. My father used it on his deck and looked great, clear and brought out the natural look of the wood with no tinting. Great! Exactly what I wanted until he notced it was peeling after 7months in direct sun. Now I am uncertain on what to use.
Our deck is half in the sun and half under cover. The Balau has been sitting for quite some time in a warehouse. The planks are 120 x 22.
I also have kwila 140x140 posts that need to be done also.
I have been looking at Intergrain Ultradeck or DWD, Spa&Deck or Organoil as a oil.
I have read many options on this site and other sites but would like real time experiences with these products. I understand that the Organoil needs to be applied more often and dont mind this, I am really after a look over than longevity. I dont mind doing it 2 time a year but... if I didn't have too it would be great too.
From what I have read Sikkens is going to darken the planks which is not what I want as I selected this particular wood because of the colour range. I like the planks looking different and not smooth consistant colour. This is why I dont want to tint the finish.
2 others that I have heard mention of are Quantum and Haymes Dexpress. Anyone?
Thanks for your time,
T54

G'day T54,
I put a large merbau deck on, probably 7 years ago now, and the finish I used has stood the test of time. It's on the western side of my house and cops the afternoon sun. (As I'm typing I'm trying to think of it's name).
I have re-coated the deck a couple of times now and it still looks great.
I'll get back to you asap with the name of the stuff.

G'day again T54,
My apologies for the delayed response.
The name of the stuff I used is "Raincoat". I bought it from the timber yard I bought the decking from.
It's a fuzzy picture but this is it here:
