    Default totally not sure

    hi sorry for not posting on the intro first but really must know as much as i can asap as iam in the middle of mini project but have to go back to work on mon!!!!!!!! found v.nice pieces of wood in v.old house being demolished thought would be nice for chopping block but is stained right through from on side to the other with unknown substance thinking maybe motor oil not 100% sure tho how can i dry it out ???can i dry it out??? would it be safe to use as chopping board???? it looks really nice but i know bugger all about wood!!!! dont know what sort of wood it is.....but i am pretty sure hardwood v.heavy for such a small piece.......can we prepare food on this????? thanx for any info!!!

    Old house? Might be creosote.....motor oil (especially sump oil) is nasty enough

    can we prepare food on this???
    Any doubts and I vote No. Get yourself some nice, new, seasoned timber and make a chopping block out of that.
    We don't know how lucky we are......

    If you don't know what it's been treated with, you can't predict what noxious fumes might be produced by burning it. I'd scratch the firewood idea if I were you. How about carving up a garden ornament?
