ok, i have bought 4 floating shelves from Bunnings to hang in my daughter's room. They are 800x250mm and I had planned to screw them into wall studs. Now that I have opened the packet, I have found the bracket is only 480mm long. The wall studs are 500mm apart. I want these shelves to be secure and not fall on my baby's head, my house is old and the walls are horsehair plaster. I have been trying to think of solutions and this is what I have come up with
a) attach timber length to studs and screw bracket to this. Not keen on this as shelf then looses the floating look.
b) screw noggin to stud. Also not keen as have JUST painted
c) have a new bracket made that is longer (getting $$$) or have someone weld on a few more centimetres of metal????
d) screw metal strip to wall studs and attach bracket to this (similar to timber option above). this seems like it would then still give the floating look (if the metal strip was thin). What sort of metal would i need (thin and strong). Any opinions or other ideas would be great.
Thanks!
