filling with shellac/sawdust mix..
Hi.
I decided to do recessed control knobs using a cove bit in a drill press.
Basically it worked OK ...well..seems to be working atm..bur there are some little bits of tear out.
I'm not too concerned because they'll be virtually covered by the knobs.. but I want t fill them.
I've heard or read somewhere that if you mix shellac & sawdust to fill the pores - in this case - tear outs - it will stain OK.
I will be staining the top with water soluble dyes sealing with shellac and then clear coating with lacquer - probably acryllic maybe nitro..so that's why I like the sound of the shellac sawdust process.
So I guess the questions are:
1. Anyone done this & if so how'd it go?
2. Would one fill everyrhing before doing any staining , or stain up the top then fill the little tear outs in the knob recesses with the sawdust brew & stain that separately or again...?
TIA
Rob.

Yes, I'd like to know the answer as well as I've never tried shellac and saw dust.
SBPower corrupts, absolute power means we can run a hell of alot of power tools
