hi, i am looking at purchasing a unit which has very bad peeling paint in the kitchen, dining & laundry ceilings.

The real estate agent said that the people living in the unit for the past 5 years had been disgusting and the place was so grotty, that prior to having any open inspections - they engaged cleaners who threw all the rubbish out, ripped up the carpet & scrubbed the walls and ceilings and that whatever cleaning chemical they had used to scub the ceiling had made the paint peel?

Does that sound true to you? or do you think the real estate agent was making it up?

It didn't look like there were any water stains on the ceiling?

Anyway, if I were to purchase this unit how do you fix the peeling paint issue?

the unit was built in 1975.

i guess you scrape all the loose peeling paint off with a paint scraper - but then what - do you have to put skim coat or something on the ceiling to even out the painted & non-painted parts .

Any help would be greatly appreciated

p.s. the ceiling in the unit isn't that high - so it needs to look perfect

thank you
