beam question
Hi there,
I'm wanting to remove a couple of windows and my back door and replace them with bi-fold doors. This space is 4.1m. This will then open my dining room onto my deck which is up to the roofing stage in construction. I have attached a sketch which attempts to show what I'm trying to do and also my deck plans.
So to install the bi-fold doors I need to remove two posts and erect a beam. I have sought some advice on a beam and was advised that a 230x65 C17 Laminated Beam would be structually sound with 70x35 posts at each of the doorway. My issue is that this beam (plus the door frames) will mean that the door height will be approximately 2m which is below the standard. I'd like to use a smaller steel beam (approximately 150 x 65) which has the same strength as the C17 laminate beam. Can anyone advise of a suitable steel beam?
Cheers,
Trey
