Hi,
I am new here, be gentle. so, getting new external stairs for a colonial in Brisbane. I have decided to go for kwila as I have heard that my first preference of spotted gum will most likely have some/considerable sap, and do not want it treated by CCA etc. enough of that. New kwila bleeds a bit I hear and have been told that I should give the stairs a couple of coats of thinned out oil based primer to help it be taken up by the hardwood, then wash it, (have tank water for those in SEQ )or let a good rain wash to help it bleed. Does this make sense?? what would others suggest.

I plan on using an acrylic for top coats after a while, and yes kwila is a lovely timber, shame to paint it, but I don't want to have to reapply stuff often. Have heard a penetrol and oil primer mix very good for sealing, is this over the top?

Not planning to paint the small landing, but leave it clear. Have used intergrain in the past, but that was on old timber. what do the people here recommend for this?

Many thanks
Sorry for dragging it out
