Bracing/Reinforcing Roof for Solar Hot Water
Recently purchased a Edwards Brand solar hot water unit with the Tank on the roof.
type hot water system. House is 10 years old and has tiled concrete tiles.
I am concerned the tank might collapse through the roof and supporting timbers. Tank is 300L so we are talking about 300kg of load pressure. Is pine structural H5 suited strong enough. If not should i definitely reinforce that section of the roof with hardwood beams e.g redgum sleepers or should it be metal tube. Am i underestimating the bearing load strength of the timber? it looks like
70mmx30mm pine and across the roof 25mmx10mm hardwood timber. This is the timber on the roof.
Has anyone done this before and if so how did you do it. Is it suited to a DIY job or need to get a builder involved.
Any advice much appreciated
