Hey forum :)

I am about to re-paint my gates and the metal bracing is a little rusty in parts and could also do with a spruce up so I was thinking about painting it in some kind of kill rust alu/silver type colour.

Have had a look at a couple of brands - Dulux, Wattyl & Berger - with regards to suitability for the job and preparation... and this is where I have a problem because I do not know what kind of metal has been used by the fencing guys. Have checked my paperwork from the gate install and it does not actually say. I *think* it could be gal, but seriously I have no idea and nor do they recall (hey, it was 8 years ago).

Is there anyway I can determine what type of metal has been used and thus determine whether I need to prime and which product to use?
