Timber Frame or Brick Garage?
Hi Guys
I'm drawing up plans for an extension on my house at the moment. The construction is timber frame and brick veneer on a concrete slab. There will be a garage at the front of the extension.
Now I've been in discusssion with a builder about the construction, and regarding the garage he suggested that I just continue the timberframe into the garage just as if it were another room and clad around it in brick, just like the rest of the extension.
In most of the houses I've seen being constructed the garage is normally not timber framed but just brick walls with support pillars on the outside wall. He suggested that the roof trusses could then be put in place at the same time as the timber frame, without waiting for the garage walls to be put up.
This sounds reasonable to me. I'm a bit concerned about only having a timber frame between the adjoining rooms and the garage, because of heat loss, but I guess wall insulation will fix that.
Is this a normal way to build a garage into a house though?
Mike
