    Default G'day from Tassie

    G'day to all,

I come here seeking recommendations, feedback, discussion, from experienced tradies for a reasonable vehicle to use everyday for a -home building- carpenter.

Budget is ~10k and am looking at utes, panel vans and vans.

I'm in Hobart, Tas. Buying locally would be preferred in 3 - 6 months.

    criteria

    reliable
    low maintenance costs
heavy loads (tools, ladder, power tools, compressor, timber, etc)
    useful life of 5 years

    Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum. Difficult question for someone to answer. Only you know your exact requirements. I personally would choose a light ute such as a Mitsubishi Triton or Holden Rodeo with ladder racks fitted. I am not sure as to how late a vehicle you would get for 10k but you should pick up something reasonably modern. you could go for a heavier vehicle such as the Mitsubishi Canter or similar size truck, just depends on how big a load you will be carrying.
You could also buy a ute and a tredesmans trailer which would give you extra carrying capacity.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

I agree with John's suggestion of a ute and trailer - you may be surprised at how often NOT having all your equipment in the tray will be an advantage.
