Carport Gal post stirrups
Hi All.
Whilst visiting my local el cheapo timber/tools supplier. I caught sight of some galvanised verandah/carport/deck??? supports. These had the usual space for a 100 x 100(ish) to be bolted between two support sides. The other end however, was a gi-normous self tapping thread. They come with a long piece of gal steel obviously to use to "auger" the whole thing into the ground. Thread length looked to be a bit over 400mm (did not have measure with me! ) As I am about to pay a guy with a massive "drill bit" on his tractor to make holes for our replacement/enlarged carport (2 car spaces to 3.5) AND as we have no idea what to expect below ground but expect rocks/rubble/general fill making the level....
I wondered if anyone has used these?
Any problems/limitations?
With only the "thread" anchoring the stirrup do I have increased risks with wind lift?
I guess, I liked the idea but am concerned that it might perform like a giant tent peg...and eventually, tent pegs always work loose.
Any feed back gratefully accepted
Thanks for your time
