Hi everyone

I'm going to be adding an extension to my single level brick vaneer home in Melbourne. My requirements are pretty simple. I'm not after any artchitectural WOW! factor, just a simple rectangular timber and brick vaneer extension to the existing house. I initially started by looking for a Draughtsman. I had two people look at the job. One quoted about $4000 and didn't bother getting back to me with his proposal, the other about $10,000.

The two draughtsmen I spoke with said that they would contract a Soil Test (additional cost), contract a Concrete Engineer for the slab design (additional cost) and a Structural Engineer to make any structural calculations (additional costs).

Now I'm a Charted Electrical Engineer myself quite technical and more than capable of using CAD to draw up the plans myself, infact I've already done this to satisfy myself with what I wanted.

So I,m thinking - Can I just make up these set of plans myself, and get the Soil test and Engineers do their bit?

Can anyone advise what is required?
What additional information apart from the Floor Plan and Elevations will I need to submit.
Are there any sample plans on the internet that would give me an idea of what information will be required with the plans for Building Approval.

Thanks
Mike
