We have just purchased an apartment with the Carpet from HELL!!

Anyway - we really want floating floors and are going to DIY to keep the budget down.... but I have quickly realised that getting the underlay right can cost more than the floor covering!!!! Ouch!

There are a number of options -

Cheap Acoustic Underlay (estimate $10 per Sqm)
Dunlop acoustica direct on slab.

Simple Acoustic Underlay (estimate $20 per Sqm.)
Pyrotek Silentstep underlay direct over concrete slab.

Acoustic Underlay System - (estimate $45-60 per Sqm.)
Regupol Insulation system - Regupol, followed by a layer of plywood - then a basic underlay under the floating floor.

3mm Cork Sheet & Underlay (estimate $30 per Sqm)
3mm Cork sheets - with a cheap underlay on top.
(No link) - Someone mentioned it previously as a good option.... where can I get cork though???


I think obviously the two latter options would be the best - but they also would be the most expensive.

There are 3 main considerations -

1. Body Corporate approval.
I obviously need to meet the BCA standards - are there any other considerations - If the insulation meets the standards can the body corporate still refuse approval?

2. Sound to the unit below
We obviously do not want to disturb our new neighbors!

3. Cost
Obviously want to do it as cheap as possible - but still must meet the other 2 criteria.
