Very dissapointed
I changed my avatar a few weeks ago (the quote over the piccy) and to date I have not received a single bite.
To date not one person of Gaelic origin has been offended, whats wrong with everyoneLast edited by Iain; 16th November 2004 at 05:06 PM. Reason: I stuffed up

Iain,
I am afraid the only words of Gaelic I know are Slainte Mhar (or something like that), which people say just before taking a large swig of Talisker whisky. After taking the swig, they don't say a lot - they are wondering if their head is going to explode.
Sadly, I think more people know Latin than know Gaelic these days.

Never mind the quote, what is your avatar anyway?
I've often wondered.
PS
The only gaelic I know is "Pogue Mahone", but they tell me that it has a rude meaning.
Oh, hang on I also know "poteen" (if that's how you spell it)

Iain,
I spotted it pretty much stright away, but passed no comment because I figured would delete it. Years ago I knew an Irish lady who spoke Gaelic fluently, belonged to some society over there when she was a teenager that promoted the language. She taught me a fair bit of stuff, most of which I've forgetten and I certainly can't spell it but "Ghunari an voger lath" (probably mangled that totally beyond comprehension, so may the road rise up to meet your feet)

Craig, the avatar is our family crest and the motto is 'Neither spare nor scorn'.
Pog mo thoin, in it's various forms (pronounced pogue mahone) means kiss the nether regions (being polite).
Just thought I would put it up to see if anyone would take a bite.

How come a rabid Scotsman describes Gippsland as "Gods own country"?
I would have thought that would have been the Heelands o' Bonnie Scotland!Jack the Lad.
