    Default clay for missing pieces

When a piece is missing on furniture, they is a clay that you can lay over one of the pieces. Once the clay is dry, you peel it off and now have a mold for making that missing piece. What is this called?

You could use any number of substances to take moulds of bits of carvings and mouldings.

The traditional material was 'compo' (the same stuff a lot of later ornate picture frames were made from), but latex, or even car filler would do the job. Don't forget to apply some release agent!

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
