How to conceal an external beam
G'Day All
Im about to start an extension on our house which is weatherboard, im putting on an L shape open plan living area on the back. If you can imagine a square 10mx10m one quater of that square is our alfresco area all under the same roof line. With one 90x90 post in the corner of the alfresco area with two timber beams running off, one running back into the exsisting and the other running back into the new extension. The problem i have is i want the celing of the alfresco area to run into the eaves so that it looks all the same but the way the drawings show is that i will have about 250mm of beam dropping down. I would like to keep the beams timber but have been told if i use steel beams they dont have to be so big in depth therefore would not see so much beam. I dont know if the truss company can make up trusses so that the beams inside the truss or not. Im doing it as an owner builder and what a great web site this is, full of information .
Regards Matto
