Black floor options
We're in the process of renovating a 1930s top (8th floor) unit in Potts Point, Sydney.
The existing floorboards are varnished (single/2-pack?) golden mid-brown colour but some are in a poor state in places with burn marks(!), stains, sun damage and some replacement boards are lighter than the rest - plus the usual damage from furniture etc.
So we've been considering the option of staining/varnishing it black to achieve a uniform finish but we're unsure which of the various options to go for to get the best combination of colour and resilience. (Black Japan, Black Two-Pack Polyurethane Varnish, Black Single Pack Polyurethane Varnish,Tung Oil, or Black Wood-Stain)
We don't have pets, children or high-heel wearing visitors (OK, maybe during Mardi Gras) but it does get windy and therefore dusty.
We plan to use a professional to do the job but I'd rather be able to specify the process used and understand what to expect as a result.
