ddoouubbllee letters
does anyone know why my laptop types double letters, it's a pain to have to edit everything and double spaces too, i'm assuming it's probably just a worn keyboard...

Yep, need a new keyboard. The keys are not returned after striking.
If you don't have yet, get the optical k/b and mouse. Very convenient.Bodgy

repeat rate could be set faster than you can type.

That'd be Start/Control Panel/KEYBOARD then adjust repeat rate from there.

Start...setting..control panel....keyboard or mouse for memory, haven't had 98 for a while now but I think it's similar to XP.
Should work it out once you are in there...

ok, just did that and it seemed to help a bit, still getting a few doubles, it might need a restart...

Could also be a dirty keyboard...a few breadcrumbs etc...give it a gentle blow out with the compressor...can't hurt.

Let us know the outcome. I can't see how the repeat rate could have changed itself, unless as your k/b wears the original setting becomes too fast.

I used to get criticised for that, 3 sugars, by the head immersed in cup all day workers, the standard white and two, I just couldn't reason with them that I only have one so my sugar intake is less, they still seem to think that 3 is more even though they have about 8 cups a day

la H,
flick off all the keys with a screwdriver, then assault the remaining assembly with a largish hammer. It won't improve the keyboard but the new laptop will certainly feel a lot better

or buy a can of CRC CO Contact cleaner Precision electronic cleaning solvent
or similar. Look "for leaves no residue" around $10 a large can - get 2 cans
Most important DO NOT DO THIS with wd40 or any oil based contact cleaner.
Pull out the battery and disconnect any power supplies first and wait few minutes. Put the lappy on its side and spray this sfuff into every crack between the keys. really pour it in using the little plastic tube/nozzle thingy working from top to bottom.
You want this stuff literally running out of the bottom of the keyboard. When your done set it aside for an hour or so to let it dry off pretty good. It evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. We routinely pour this stuff straight onto a motherboard to clean off the dust and crap so we have it clean to work on.
sounds extreme but your lappy should respond positivelyray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'
