    CARS V COMPUTERS

Bill Gates is reputed to have recently said that, if the motor industry had progressed as quickly as computer businesses, we would all be driving cars that cost £25 and did a 1,000 miles to the gallon.

The reply from the motor industry was that if the car industry had
developed technology like Microsoft, cars of today would:

    1. Crash at least twice a day for no reason whatsoever.

    2. Every time the council repainted the white lines on the road
you would have to buy a new car.

    3. Occasionally your car would come to a halt and refuse to move. To get it going, you would need to close all the windows, switch off then open the windows again.

    4. Occasionally turning left would cause your car to shut down
and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to buy a new
    engine.

    5. Apple would make a car that was powered by the sun, be 5 times faster than anything else and twice as easy to drive, but it would be limited to 15% of the road.

    6. The airbag would ask “are you sure” before it deployed.

    7. Sometimes your car would only start if you held on to the aerial, the boot lid and one of the tyres at the same time.

    8. Manufacturers would require all car buyers to buy a set of
road atlases, and if they did not, the car would immediately lose 50% of all its power. 9. Every time a new car was introduced, we would all have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would be the same.

    10. You would have to press the start button to turn the engine
    off.
