    Default Stalk Breakers

Doing the shopping the other day I noticed a few broccoli stalks in with the rest. Some wretched sod must have broken them off to avoid paying a little more money for their fresh produce.
Are there any other tricks that anyone uses to try and avoid spending a few bucks at the grocery store or hardware store? Come on 'fess up.

I call that theft, same as sampling grapes. I get that kind of weaseling all the time.

As a business owner I know how hard it is to make a dollar. Theives like that should have their right hands cut off, nothing extreme, just their right hands.

Our local greengrocer has a sign on the broccoli saying "Anyone removing the stalks from the Broccoli will be charged piece price"

Went to buy a watermelon yesterday, but I didn't end up buying one as I was full as a goog after I finished the trial one.

My nickname at work is weasel and I must protest my innocence I have never sampled a grape in my life.

If they're worried about it, they should cut all the stalks off and charge more for it.

I actually knew someone who liked eating broccoli stalks, so if Con the Fruiterer had any smarts, he'd sell them too.

If you peel broccoli stalks and slice them into bite sized bits they are great to eat. I add them to our stir fries.

Either that or I whip them up in the blender and feed them to the worms.

I cut the stalks into strips and cook them with the rest of the broccoli.
    Still good vitamins and fibre.
