have thought abt this for some time and feel it would be an excellent thing, done right.... and I think the fairy tale is wrong

Excellent thermal properties. Also, strawbale is good in fire apparently, as there are no "chimneys" like stud walls.

couple of other sites: (gotts love the net!)

One thing that really appealed to me about straw bale is its flexibility - I love period homes, the more basic the better.... imagine Tuscany or Provence.....Straw bale lends itself to this style nicley - when I looked at building, my builder (highly regarded stone mason) and I worked out how to marry Sandstone quoining, lintels, steps etc. to Straw as a cost effective way of maintaining the bulk, look and feel of stone at a far lower cost.

.... and then of course there's the combo of Straw and post-n-beam - YUMMY

The big problem I see with strawbale is the possibility of termite damage.
