    Default Plumbing advice?

I have just had a killer quote for some plumbing work - $8000 - and I need to know a better way to proceed with my bathroom and kitchen plumbing. I kinds of get the feeling it is a 'your job is too difficult' quote, but since it isn't itemised I could be wrong. Any advice would be gratefully received!

The bathroom needs a toilet added from scratch and some old pipework sorted out. I know that isn't the most clear description in teh world but the old shower had all the pipework exposed and I need that sorted so I can have a working shower. (I have posted a copy of the before pic so you can see the type of dire situation I mean.) The toilet would go against the outside wall of the property. The bathroom is currently back to concrete so no need to muck around with tiles etc.

I was hoping to get that work done for about $1500, but am I being utterly unrealistic?

The second drama is the kitchen. Foolishly, I know, when we took on the property we assumed that hot water was running in the kitchen. (I know you should check, but really, who doesn't have hot running water?!) The kitchen backs on to the sleepout and the cold water pipe presently runs along the kitchen/sleepout wall. I figure we could get the hot water run in along the back wall as well but I don't know if that is legal/feasible.

The other issue is the waste pipe, which is against the back wall of the kitchen/sleepout. I was told (but may have misunderstood), that installing a 1 1/2 sink would mean the waste would need to be lowered. does that make sense? Would that be the reason for the size of the quote?

    Again, really appreciate the advice.

*photo showing the bathroom as it was. House was owned by a 94-year-old, amazed she felt safe showering!

I think the plumber is having a lend of you, and you need to get another quote.

    Both legal and feasible

If it comes from the wall and not the floor then it needs to be lowered to fit in the double bowl connector. There wouldn't be much cost in it though.

    As above,

+ the idea of 1500 is not that far off the mark for the work- that wouldn't include the kitchen sink or shower taps though.
If you dont play it, it's not an instrument!

ask the guys your getting quotes from to break them down (itemise) so you can see where the money is going, and offer to pay them cash aswell if you can afford to

It looks like you are in for a big slug of work there. I think $8000 is far too much just for the plumbing work - perhaps that figure includes some carpentry.
